What Makes My World Sparkle With Joy

It is a bit amazing to me what joy I get from seeing sunlight shine through these bottles on my pavilion.

They cost next to nothing, but the sparkle it brings to my small world is endless.

And then there's this Hyacinth Bean vine growing up a trellis. I noticed that, although no birds have decided to occupy this house, the vine is making itself quite at home.

Isn't it odd that small, inconsequential details can make us happy? Do you think it's just looking out through eyes that see the glass as half-full versus half-empty?

You can use words to make people happy. Or you can use them as barbs to make them sad. When I was young, I didn't quite understand the importance of this. Not like I do now.

It seemed I was always in such a hurry to get here and there and do this and that. And I didn't stop to think how happy just seeing crisply folded up napkins could make me.

If only I'd known then what I know now...

That the sight of little fairy gardens could make my heart beat faster. That the scent of common herbs could put delight into my day.

That just being in the same room with a bowl of lemons could make me smile.

That finding a piece of embroidered linen in an antique booth could make my mind wander in all sorts of directions, if I allowed it to.

Wondering about the person that tried so hard to get the stitches even. Why it was that I could find something so precious and bring it home for just a few measly dollars.

I'm no longer a spring chicken. But I wouldn't trade this knowledge to go back in time. To have to learn it all over again.

So as you go about your day, remember that it's not just about stopping to smell the roses. It's about gazing at the texture

It's about pouring your glass a little more full and sipping just a bit more slowly.
